Does anyone know of a scientific study on the effect of coyotes on deer populations and/or behavior? Any opinions?

I don't know of any scientific data to speak of, but I do know this...

Where there are large populations of coyotes, it's a good thing to recover a deer within a few hours of a kill after sunset... if you don't, the coyotes will have their way.

In my experience of hunting on property that is very high in coyote population...
The deer are not affected by them as to their normal routines in feeding and bedding. But when they catch wind of 'yotes, they are out of there! I don't believe coyotes are much of a threat predator-wise on deer. A healthy adult deer could easily put down a coyote if cornered and threatened. If weakened by stressful winter and dogged my multiple 'yotes, that would be a different story.

It would be interesting to see some data on what biologists believe is the mortality rate of new-born fawns based on high population of coyotes. In our area, this doesn't seem to be much of a problem. Nearly all Does are traveling with twin yearlings by the time fall arrives.
