saw my first deer this morning. she was a pretty doe about 100 pounds or so. she got close enough for a shot but I was half asleep when I heard her break a twig. then she smelled either me or my Thermacell. maybe both. she blew a couple of times and hopped away. I'll post pics of her in a week or two. :)

Boho,
I dare you to try and turn that Thermacell off. I'm sure that the mosquitos are just as bad where you hunt, as they are where I do. This year seems to be exceptionally bad, maybe these giant mosquitos were brought up by the hurricane. When I gett in the stand, I just ball up until the Thermacell starts to kick in. I really feel sorry for the deer, they seem to be real uncomfortable.

Braden, they are tough this year for sure. It bothers me that on the package it says odorless but that thing does have an odor to it. Whether it spooks game or not I haven't fully decided yet. I know that in the last few seasons I have only had about 4 deer blow at me. This is the first full year I have used it. I take extreme care of my clothes and all scent starting mid Sept. The verdict is still out but your right; to turn it off would be horrible. Seeing no deer is better than getting West Nile. How's your season going?

Boho,
I've only been out a ew times this year, but have seen deer most times, just nothing within range. I had a nice doe working her way in one evening, she had closed in w/in 30 y,but would not hit an oening for about 10 or 20 y. That's when I made an adjustment on my grip, and my nice new wedding band tapped against my riser. It made the slightest, yet distinctly not natural sound. She knew that something was up and walked off in the opposite direction. She didn't snort, and was not spooked, just felt something different. I have since begun hunting w/ a light glove; the Mrs. did not like the idea of me taking off my ring to hunt.
I toted a 12 gauge, and black lab out in thewoods Sat and took my aggressions out on some squirrels. Plus my dog loves to retrieve those guys. She doesn't run the squirrels, just sits by my side and waits for me to send her. I can shoot across water or thickets w/o having to worry about how I can get over there.
You're right about the Thermacell. It does have a smell, but I don't think that it is as bad as bug spray, plus you don't have to listen to all of that buzzing around.
I need to get back and go to some of those shoots again, they were fun.

Tuff, I'm working on it. One of the longest droughts we have seen in Oct now and I'm hauling 15 gallons of water to my spot every chance I get. :)
Braden, The shoots are a blast. As far as I know we will be having one in Learned in Febuary. You need to take that Wedding Band off while your hunting. As long as it's the 4 legged deer your hunting, she shouldn't care. You gotta set the rules now or you'll be through hunting in a few years and will be in the Malls shopping instead. :amen:

Thanks for the advice. Noticed another downside to hunting w/ a wedding band... added noise w/ the shot. I started practicing w/ a light glove on my left hand yesterday. I couldn't help but notice how much quieter my bow shot when I wore this glove. Finally, I figured it out. During the shot, when the bow vibrates, it was rattling against my wedding band, and creating a little more noise. I just didn't realize how much until I eliminated it with the glove. Don't worry, I'll be heading into the woods with either a glove or mt band off. But sometimes I just can't get the thing off.

LOL My advice is always free for what it's worth. LOL Just don't forget to put the band back on and she'll never know. :highfive:
