Oh boy... here we go again. Having hunted the same property for 10 years now, I too have a theory.

Regardless of when the full moon appears in Northern Illinois, the Seek phase occurs between Nov. 6-10, the Chase phase occurs Nov. 11-15, and the Breeding phase occurs Nov. 16-20. Now, take into consideration an overlap of 2 days in each phase along with 2 days + or - for calendar adjustment and you don't need to know exactly when the "rutting moon" appears. It doesn't matter... with a normal buck to doe ratio, normal Nov. weather, and normal non-intervention of human activity.... the PHOTO PERIOD will do the rest, trust me.

Guess when my hunting vacation will occur? Nov. 5th - Nov. 16th ought to just about cover it. :D

You "moon watchers" have your greatest challenge in getting me to "believe". :p

What? Aren't you guys gonna say something like... "The moon affects many things on this earth, Piney... you of course are one of them. Get your head out of your butt and at east learn something about it!"

I contributed what I believe from my experiences, so how about some experiences from the moon gurus? Maybe I can learn a thing or two.... :)

Basicly the rut is in the middle of November and follows a pattern such as Piney described. This years full moon is on the 16th, so it is as prime time for a rut and movement will be on both sides of this moon phase.

Can't wait :) :highfive:

Mo-o-o-n shadows... moon shadows... :)

OK Hank, so what was the low-down on moon phase the evening of Oct. 22nd?

We had considerable deer movement from 5:30-7:00 pm. Not all that unusual actually. But the following morning (Oct. 23rd) between 6:30-8:00 am, nothing... not one deer sighted. And this was in the same area that was observed the evening before.
