Torsten is not permitted to bowhunt moose in Finland. So he does the next best thing. He kills one in bow range, with his rifle! Here's the brief description in his words:

Ehmmm, no bow. Bow-hunting on moose is not allowed in Finland.
Male calf, about 100 kg. They came "flying" at me, cow with two calves. I got the last one. Ideal bow-distance: ~25 meters. He "fell in the fire".

I figured I'd post his message to me for all of Tradtalk to see and congratulate Torsten.

Torsten,

We'd all be interested in greater detail on the story and pictures, when you have some available. Well done:

Could you shoot `em with a bow and then say you shot him with a gun later? No, just kidding....most countries on this beautiful planet do not allow any hunting at all, and almost all of them forbid hunting with the primitive bow and arrow. Isn`t it great? My guess is that our ancestors from Finland passed on the moose, because they didn`t have a gun : ) Am I right?

Sorry, couldn`t resist. :(

Congrats to your friend in Finland, I have some friends from there and they are great people :)

Honestly, I have never been sucessful at gun hunting...and marvel at another`s success.

Also in Finland people belive that nowadays hunting bows derive from the "summer-cottage-age-version".
When I would use bow to kill the moose and rifel afterards there would be two different holes (my rifle does not allow muzzy to put into the barrel good a shot to hit with bow and rifle afterwards the same spot...

After all, I have now 15 kg of beautiful beef, filet and minced meat to wait to join my forest mushrooms and cream sauce...

Happy hunting,

Torsten

Congrats Torsten. What caliber you wack it with? You just had to be shooting a Sako. Maybe a 9.3?

Nice job, Torsten... those are some really big animals.

Wish we had those beasts running around here in the Midwest of U.S.

Congratulations! Is it true that Moose meat is preferred above all wild game in Finland?

I applied for a moose tag in Montana this year. Will be lucky to get one in twenty years!

Thorsten, To kill a moose with any weapon is a great tribute to your hunting skills. To do it at bow range is also a bonus. WAY TO GO! :highfive: John
