Since I have decided I like the way a blade works on treerats better than a blunt I have fooled with ways to get a small game head without paying broadhead prices.I used to just stick a piece of banding into the blunts but I could not find my hacksaw so I whacked one with a sawzaw and the blades are pretty thick. They were just right for a penny to fit in tight so I made pennypincher heads. :) They are quick and easy to make. The penny is just pinched in with a vise and I used no epoxy. It can be cut easily with a pair of snips to the shape you want.I just sharpen the leading edge a little. This shows how it is done. The finished one has been shot for 2 weeks now waiting for the season to start.I have shot all the leaves and junk laying around the yard with it.It has held up real well and I am not going to be out much if I loose it.

He's a tree rat maniac, LOL. :p
Great idea... looks like they'd really do a number on a bushy-tail.
I've got so many old Zwickeys laying around, if I were to get into some serious tree-rat hunting, it'd be those with a turkey stopper right behind 'em. I hit one with a Stinger last year, pinned the dang thing right to the ground... couldn't get away if he wanted to, LOL.

I am going to shoot squirrels while I scout to locate a big one Lambow. :)
Piney the broadheads work ok on the ground but get stuck when you are shooting up in the tree.Short blades will not stick in the tree and are backquiver freindly.

... small game head is the old bodkin. They aren't as inexpensive as yours but they are still being made and are one of the least expensive heads on the market. I rough sharpen them on my belt sander and they work real well, esp. on squirrles. I have some old Rob teks hanging around and will give them a try one of these days. :shooting:
I f I am shooting up into trees I use flu flus and regular blunts or the Game nabber heads. :2cents:
What shafts do you use that are affordable enough to shoot up into trees?

Cato I use the Easton fall stalkers or the carbons Walmart has left when they put them on clearance. :) Really I try to catch the squirrels on the truck of the tree and loose very few arrows that way.The ones I have for the DAS are the 1916 fall stalkers since I am shooting off the shelf this week.

...I have carbons that get banged up but are still shootable. I make flu-flus from them and only use steel blunts so that they don't stick in the trees. Most of the ones I have had the shaft get mushroomed at the insert so I slip a piece of aluminum shaft over the end, reinsert the bh adapter and fletch them for flu flus. The bodkins do not get shot up into the air unless the critter is low enough to the ground and is on the side of the tree. :shooting:
