Just thought I would get a headcount. We love to talk about it.
I tore my bicep tendon off last year and wound up just missing on Dr.'s orders. Drove me crazy and I'm twice as pumped up for this season.
I'm just now starting my excercise regimen and am going to really push the envelope to make up for lost time. Plantar faciitis has kept me from running since Sept., another setback I plan to overcome.
Step up and be reconized, Glynn

Glynn...Seeing how I have elk in my back yard I don't have to go to far to chase them, getting them to stand still is the only problem....warf

I hunt elk. However, I've only started shooting a bow within the last year. Since my longbow is only 50# I do not think it's adequate for elk so I will only use it for hunting mulies and small game. Depending on whic side of the Cascades I am hunting, my elk hunting is done with a Winchester Model 70 30/06 or Marlin 1895 Guide Gun in 45/70. I'd love to hunt elk with a bow but I also don't want to be underbowed. Besides, hunting mulies with a longbow is more than enough to keep me busy.

Your not under bowed at 50lbs!!!!. I have taken elk with a 40-45lb bow. Hay BOB did you ever kill a elk with your ponder. LOL :2cents:

Van...I have killed elk with about everything except a land mine. Beaned a cow moose last year right between the ears with a rock last summer, she was mowing my lawn at the time. Never seen anything that big move so fast!!....Did you ever notice that your piggies all left right after you got warfed? Hmmmm...makes you wonder doesn't it!....LOL....warf

There is nothing like Elk country! I love hearing those things sounding off in the mountains.

Bob, sure would save me alot of sweat if I could just hide behind a cedar out in the yard. How about tying up one of those grass munchers for me?
mjhall, I tried to pick up something onehanded that my youthful brain had just lied to my old body about.
I just got released to shoot the first week of Sept. but couldn't handle very much. That's when I went back to my roots and bought that metal bow from Rod, a 42# Sky Hunter. I couldn't shoot my 63# Robertson till it was too late.
I missed elk season, but did tag my whitetail buck in Nov. and a hog in Jan. Going after hogs again this weekend.
Stumbled into Bob over here and got warfed in record time. After not being able to shoot for 4 months I am making up for lost time by shooting every game I can.
I hunt elk in Colorado, we do base camp and bivy, backpack hunts as well. But I like hearing and talking about any kind of elk hunting.
Rooselk, I agree with Van, 50# is plenty. Just gotta put it in the goody box.
Any other backpackers out there? Only six months to go. Glynn

I just recently joined your fascinating forum. My best thanks to be with you.
I live in Finland and we, emmm, do not have elks but moose only. Moose are not allowed with any bow here even though, if I am informed right, my 65# recurve would be legal in USA for moose.
Let me give a recommendation for remaining in good fitness and particularly for people like me travelling a lot:
The inner tire of a montain bike: you make a knot there where your draw length will be, and there you are. Put it into the pocket of your trouthers or whatever. You can practice drawing, holding stance as you like it.
Is 2 $ too cheap? Not my problem.
Last year I switched from a 50# bow to 65 and was 'at home' immediately. Even in deep frost.
Try to get your tendons well and keep them there.
One year I will go to the Baltics and go hog and moose hunting ... with a bow.
