View Full Version : basic limb repair questions...

awhile back I purchased a bow with a shallow cut in the upper limb. it looked almost as if somebody took a knife and made a light chop in it. not deep and very clean.

I was concerned to string it, but did regardless and sure enough my fear was founded as the resin seperated from the wood just slightly in quarter moon shapes around the cut when I drew back. (It wasn't fired, just drawn back a couple times)

I unstrung and thought about attempting to contact the bowyer (Roy McIntosh) or checking locally to see about repair, but then decided it was too simple a thing to bother.

I sanded it down as shown in pics attached and have yet to finish the job. the bow shoots fine as it is, but I want it to basically look as if it were never damaged to begin with if possible.

The thing is.. it turned out to be a very competent bow, extremely pleasant to shoot and I don't want to mess around. If it weren't this case I wouldn't be overly concerned, but as it is I want to get it right.

so... I've never done any bow repair before and am curious exactly what resin to use and where to obtain it. or should I attempt to contact the bowyer and see what he used when he made it or what his opinion is on this minor repair project.

anyway, here's the pics of the damage repaired up to this point;

believe the bow was made in 1994 if that matters.

one last pic that doesn's show the damage, but just because it's purty.
