Looks like the DNR is going to do away with check-in stations. All ya have to do is call an automated 800 number within 24 hours of killing a deer and indicate what sex, antler or antlerless, approx. age... and that's it.

I don't like the sound of this. Also, they are eliminating the cap set on non-resident antlerless deer tags. Heard a rumor they might be pushing to place bowhunters in Sept/Oct, gun hunters would have the run of things in November, then bowhunters remainder of year through Feb.

All they care about is numbers of deer harvested. IMO, we don't have an overpopulation problem here in Illinois. The CDW has the DNR freaked out... either that or they're using it as an excuse to reduce populations dramatically. A buddy of mine said he saw a DNR sharpshooter in a texas tripod last week!

I wish that Wisconsin would do away with the check-in stations too. Illinois is so broke that the check-in stations are being classified as non-essential services.
