View Full Version : Those darn nocks

I wanted to know if you guys have a solution to this problem........
I have always been a string snob from the days of my compounds to my stick bows. That is to say I never use the factory supplied string. I usually order a 12 strand Dyna 97 (Flemish Style) from Tradmall (Love those mountain muffs and string color options!).
Anyway, what happens is that after about 100 shots I notice the nock does not fit snuggly (i.e. It begins to loosen). I shoot 2016 Easton Legacy's with the typical XX75 nocks.
If I take one of my Carbon Express arrows (leftovers from my compound days) they fit snug so my guess is that it is the nock style. Any suggestions for different nocks? :help:

I use the regular snap nocks on XX75's. I like a loose fitting nock.
I've heard of sticking them in hot water and closing them up, never tried it, so don't know if it works.

Stick'em,
You can indeed heat them and bend them. You just have to be careful to get them all the same. I use a heat gun but you have to be very careful to control the heat. I've tried hot water from the tap and it didn't work. A pot of boiling water probably would work, and would be safer. Toss in a couple of hotdogs and you've got lunch. :)

Stick'em,
I use either a candle or plain screw driver to control the nock. My problem: my arrows do not last 100 shots: mainly losses in forest moss or snow, more and more Robin Hoods coming up.
When the nock gets too loose I just bend it back with pliers. There is a time limit as well.

Boiling water works real well. A snap on takes 15-20 seconds to be pliable enough to bend, Mercurys and Nirks around 45. Bohnings about 30. I guess this doesn't help much because these are mounted on woodies. Just immerse a little past the "****" otherwise you will soften the glue.

grab the serving on both sides of where the nock goes and push there together. I dont use copper nocks anymore I tie them on with some spider wire fishing string this way I can push them together againg and still have my nock point set the same. But I do like to have a loss arrow nock been getting better arrow flight.

Nocks do wear. I use Easton G Nocks exclusively on my aluminum arrows and I replace them about every year. Plus they come in two sizes .088" and .098". Makes it real easy to size your nocks to the serving. As they wear and loosen up, just pop some new ones in. On the Legacy shafts you might try Marco Snap Nocks. I've found they are slightly tighter.
Torsten,
When I first started shooting I carried a small cardboard target down to the school yard to practice. I missed that box a lot!! The arrows would slide into the grass and completely disappear! I finally figured out that I could find them by taking off my shoes and walking barefoot over the grass! You can feel the shaft even under thick thatch! Once I even found an arrow that wasn't mine. I was just thinking that it might work for your moss problem. Of course walking bare foot in -XXXXX degree weather would be rough, and broadheads would complicate things, but hey you Norsemen have a reputation for toughness to uphold right?
