Yea I know this one has been brought up many times but I tried a glove out today at lunch,I normally shoot a tab.At first it seemed a bit odd,my anchor felt differnt, but after a couple ends it seemed like I could get it to repeat alright. While I wasn,t impressing myself at all I was surprised to add it up when I was done and get a 247,I just didn,t think I did all that great. Not that 247 is great shootin but it is pretty decent IMO anyway. It,s at the high end of what I,ve been averageing(cept on Mon nights LOL) I think I,m gonna give this glove a chance to see how I end up after a few weeks.

Shoot straight and have FUN!!

First off a 247 on an NFAA is pretty decent shooting, in anybodies book. The glove might work for you, but given it an honest try, so you know you're not falling into the new toy syndrome. When ever we try something new, we start paying close attention to the details, and we shoot better, for a while. Let it break in for a few sessions and see what happens.

Hey you might d owhat we did in the old days, we wore a tab over a glove! The glove gave us protection on the heavy bows, and the tab gave the cleaner release. Thes days, the bows are lighter, and the tab works just fine.

Bull - BTW, the W&W 360 has been working pretty well, actually didn't like it at first, but really worked in nicely!

I,ve been meaning to try the ww tab but at this time I,m not making any orders for new toys.I,ve got a few other things I need to takecare of first. The glove is a grizzly size medium that I bought for my daughter to use at Denton a few yrs ago.I had several tabs made by neet but my beagle seemed to like them as much as I did and I,m left with the most worn out one,go figure.

I also thought I was getting a better release with the tab and it seemed like I had a better feel for my anchor but this glove being pretty darn tight might do alright for me.I can,t say I,ll stick with the glove but I will at least give it some time to see how I like it and by than maybe I can make a new toy order.

PS I know that a 247 ain,t bad at alll,I was actually surprised it added up to that since I had a couple ends of 18. It,s pretty bad when good shootin isn,t quite good enough LOL .....I need more practice so I can get a firm grip on it instead of just seeing it within my grasp

I tried a tab for several 300 sessions, but it didn't last all that long. I shot several decent rounds in the 240's but gave up on it anyways. Maybe it's the hunter in me that says I want to stick with the glove, I dunno. I would need instruction as to the proper fit and use of one before going back and trying it again. I'm a newbie when it comes to understanding the proper use of a tab.

I agree with Piney on this'un. I grew up using a glove and tabs just don't feel "right." I do keep a couple of'em in my shooting range bag just in case I can let someone else try my bow. My gloves are stretched and moulded to fit my own hot little hands and I seldom am willing to let someone else use them---it'd be like letting somone borrow my toothbrush--or something like that  .

I've shot a tab for so long that a glove just feels wierd.

Switching back and forth from a glove to a tab keeps my shooting fresh. Concentration seems like the key to accuracy and when my shooting starts to slip I change something, like switching from tab to glove, and it usually improves. John

Ok, so I hear Hank on the deep hook thing, but what's the proper fit and use of tab. I'm currently shooting 3-under. Any suggestions of good ones out there from those that have tried many and found one that seems to be better than the rest?

I,ve always used a kant pinch type of tab and didn,t really give 3 under a fair chance so I don,t know about that one.As far as fit I just get one that feels right when I put it on.

For the glove, the one I,m tring out right now is tight since it was purchased for my daughter to use not me.I,m kinda thinkin thats not such a bad thing because it did seem to loosen a little as I was shooting, streching to fit MY fingers.

With the tab I could feel the whole backside of my finger up to the first knuckle against my face(deep hook) and also had to make that hook right away before putting any preasure on the string (I have my nocks fairly loose and it,s easy to push the arrow off the string if I don,t hook it early on) By the way that equals a dry fire if the string comes off the nock while drawing.

With the glove I could only feel the tip digging in even though I grabbed right ahold of the string.I could also feel the arrow tight to the string which I kinda like since dry fires really get me worked up. The anchor actually felt more solid even with less finger contact against my face ,don,t know why maybe it,s the new toy thing.

I,m gonna try this for a few weeks than see about getting one of those ww tabs and givethat a whirl .I see there,s mixxed feelings about each of these items which I suspected anyway haveing read simular posts before.

Thanks guys have a great day

I have tried a tab several different times but can never seem to get comfortable with it.It always feels like I am a little out of control. :) I am the same way when shooting an open palm glove.I just don't like the way they want to slip on my fingers.I might not get as clean of release with a regular glove but with a deep hook, it works the best for me.jmo

Win & Win 360 works real well. Cordivan leather with removable finger spacer and a stainless steel base plate. Been shootin one for about a year now that Papa Bull turned me on to them. Get a much cleaner, quieter, faster release. Before that I used Damaskas and deer skin gloves, but by the time they really fit well they started getting a deep crease or holes from wear. Since it cold up here I now shoot the tab over a poly glove, no difference in impact. Only down side is you need 2 in case you drop one or it falls out of your pocket while pullin arrows, gloves always stayed on my hand even when pulling arrows.

With my recurves it's a glove three under. When shooting compounds I use a custom tab split dropping the top off (basically two under). Ain't that a pickle. I may try the tab again in the summer with the curves but right now I'm in the middle of a league. I use a super glove (cordovan) now and a cordovan tab for the "other bow" ;)

Hey All,

I'm very new to archery, and have been mostly hovering on the old site, picking up lots of good info. Have started shooting with deerskin glove, but want to try a tab soon.

I know glove vs tab & types of either are personal decisions, but what is the diff if any between cordovan and hair on tabs for clean releases?

BTW - Like the new site lots!

The cordovan is thick strong leather, it wears well and is very protective. With proper care, it can be pretty slick and givea good release. The hair tabs are touted as being very slick on the release, my experience has been that the hair goes "bald" or wares out quickly, and unless has a good heavy layer of "something" behind it, isn't very proctective. Great for guys who like to feel the string; I'm not one of them!!!

I agree with the hair going bald.It happens to me fairly quickly esspecially at the bottom where my ring finger would be. I ,ve only used the hair faced kant pinch style so I can,t comment on the others. I,d say try em see what YOU like and what works for ya and go from there. I still gotta give that ww 360 a whirl .....

Aint it FUN

There has to be a reason virtually every Olympic archer shoots a tab. Personally, for me, the finger stalls on most gloves aren't long enuf to allow a truly deep hook.

What is a deep hook?

crease beyond first digits? second digits? base of fingers?

A deep hook starts slightly past (deeper) the first joint, and rolls to the first joint at anchor. Or there about, it used to differentiate from a finger tip grip.

We have deep winter still and gloves are a must. I either put my three finger glove below and winter the pair gloves as normal or use thicker gloves only.

I am very satisfied with using normal 'working' gloves alone and see now difference regarding accuracy.

When the temperatures return to the comfortable level I might give my tab a new try.

The only tabs I,ve used have the spacer in them. For those that prefer tabs do you like them with or without the spacer??

The glove obviously has no spacer and I seem to have a better??(new) feel of the arrow.124 out of 150 with the glove on lunch today ,did not shoot at all yesterday

Okay, last night was league noght and I used the glove.I had a few times where it felt like a double clutch or somethin.Kinda like I wanted to grab the shot back but it was to late.Is this a common thing with the glove or could I just not have noticed it with the tab? Those double grabs gave me a pair of 2,s and a 1 :cussing: but at least I was able to still shoot 249.I woulda really liked to get those goofs back but oh well

Double-clutch? I only do that when driving the 3000GT. LOL

Actually, I've done it with both tab and gloved release.
Target pani.... nope, won't even say it.

The guys talked me into getting a registartion form for the states coming in April, they seem to think I,ll at least place.I think I just may give it a whirl and see.

I like a glove, especially the Big Shot glove by American Leathers.

I like the feeling of it always being there and the added control I feel compared to using a tab.

Go for it Swampy...you will do great!

Hey BW, looks like you found the doggie door to this site!

I got a Big Shot glove largely based on Ray's recommendation, and I'm never looking back! The Big Shot is an absurdely good glove!

I've shot gloves except for the last three years. My favorite was the SuperGlove with cordovan finger tips by Alaska Bowhunting Supply.

But I realized that there were sound reasons for switching to a tab and after a number of tries finally kicked the glove habit. It wasn't easy because I really liked the old, broke in glove, but eventually the broke-in tab produced the results that I was hoping for. I found I didn't, necessarily shoot "better" with a tab so much as I found the flyers in the group didn't wander as far or as often. I think the reason for that is the way a string pulls the flap of leather straight and makes it easy to use a deep hook, while gloves can be a bit stiff for a deep hook and the cordovan tip seams can catch the string a bit., causing it to "bounce' on the release, rather than slip off the thinner, more flexible tab.

I like mine with a spacer for my style of shooting. I feel the spacer helps me use a more precise and consistent finger placement and finger pressure through the draw and release.

Dave,

The website is http://www.americanleathers.com/cart/shopexd.asp?id=6

This glove gives the cleanest release I have ever experienced and lasts forever.

Vegas??? Well, I was completely humbled. I went to the shoot not planning on winning, but to get the experience of shooting in front of a bunch of strangers while competeting in a higher level event than what I have previously experienced. I knew I would be shooting against compound shooters that put the tip of their arrow right on the bullseye.

I sure learned alot.

First thing I learned was to read the rules before attending a shoot so I can be better prepared. I was told by a friend back home I would have a choice between the single spot target and the 3 spot target and found out that all the adults had to shoot the 3 spot....ug!

My first day of shooting was "nerve city". I had so much adrenaline running through me I was shaking. I had never shot the 3 spot target more than just a couple of rounds for fun and all I could think about was flinching and getting a zero. I've been hired to demonstrate my trick shooting skills in front of large crowds before, but nothing has ever compared to the nerves I felt in Vegas.

After shooting terribly, I completely lost any confidence I had and shot even worse the next day.

By the last day, I said heck with it. I just need to relax and pretend I'm shooting back home and I than ended up shooting very comfortabaly with my best score for the 3 day shoot.

My shooting form ended up changing to where I held anchor for about 3 more seconds than normal because I was trying to control my target panic. My releases were much cleaner, but I lacked the confidence in my sight picture.

Out of 90 shots for the 3 days I ended up missing about 12 shots and ended up with 12, 0's instead of 12, 5's as if it were the single spot target.

I did beat the rest of the guys shooting wooden bows off of the shelf.

One of the guys had target panic so bad he was shooting arrows into the othe peron's target.

I heard they are going to create a Traditional Class next year with the option of picking the single spot target, which would be awesome. That might draw more Traditional archers to this event.

There is always next year

Ray

Funny you should mention the 3-spot... I was shooting indoor 300 tonight at single spot and banged a few groups to the point where I was fearing bent aluminums, so I switched to the 5-spotters. Wow, what a difference... was in a mental re-configuration mode immediately... couldn't hit 'em for crap.

I did break down and order a winn winn 360 tab but plan on shootin the glove a little while longer just to give it a fair shot.

I also sent in a check and registration to shoot in the NYFAB classic (states) on April 10th.This will be my first major competition.the only other competitions I,ve shot in where 3D league shoots and club trophy shoots but those were a bit more informal.Yea I had to shoot with strangers(they weren,t strangers long LOL) but there was only 4 per group. There will be hundreds lined up in fairly close proximity to each other.

Like Black Wolf I figure I,ve got nothin to loose and it should be quite the experiance.

"causing it to "bounce' on the release,"

Yea thats what I,m talkin about PB .It happened again today.I can actually feel it hit after I release it but only once in a while.

After shootin 4 ends of 22 I let that "bounce" and a coworker that I told to try and distract me get in my head 17,18 LOL oh well It,s still a long ways till deer season and I,m not far from where I wanna be :)
