I was wondering how often you guys manage a round with no 5s. I have not done it myself - usually I get at least 4 5's on a 30 target course.

A 320 score is what one would end up with if you would shoot all 8s in a 40 target shoot. That’s only good for a place in the top10 normally. If I am shooting at my average I will not have any 5s. I have shot many shoots with only 10s,8s and a few 12s. I shoot only for 10s and hope to slop into the 12 ring. Never , never do I go for a 14. –Well almost never .
On a off day I will sometimes go into the 5 and it kills me. Two or three fives will drop you out of the top three.

For me, shooting all 8's and 10's at various clubs (15 or so) in my area is pretty difficult to do consistently. And as summer moves along with trees and brush continuing to grow and all, courses get ever more challenging, and on some targets, just hitting foam is a plus.
That said, I've shot only 2 rounds this year with no nickles.

You guys are killing me... No 5's? I'm still trying to shoot no zeros. :)
We shoot from the compound stakes most of the time, but still...
:youdaman:
I guess I just have a lot of room for imrovement.
I do hope to shoot a 240 (on 30 targets) by the end of the summer, we'll see.

agreed with benzy,
I shoot the compound stakes , goal is no ZEROS in a 40 target tourney. But nice shooting all who can...

Oh dang I thought 5 was a good score :). infact there are times on release I just hope the dang thing is a 5......I got the body english to proof it. giving the shot some left hip, tune the shoulder to the right, lean away from the arrant arrow (that is the worst kinda arrows). Ohhhhhhh great got him in the neck thank goodness :). now that is what ya call form.

Ya know your in for real trouble when ya have to lift your leg off the ground just to get the arrow in his butt. :)

So Rusty, seems a guy can be a stringwalker and still be able to trigger a little instinctive hip twisting, shoulder turning, hand waving follow through when he needs to.
Well you know I tried that method three times this morning at the 3d shoot and yup, it works pretty well for getting nickles..
But, if only I could have gotten that leg "up" before impact.... Probably would have gotten the arra in the 8 ring !

I shoot a round with no 5's several times a week.
Then I wake up from my nap.

My strategy is to shoot for the edge of the ten closest to the center of the 8, NOT for the center of the ten.
My reasoning is, if you aim near the center of the eight, you sometimes get the ten. But you're less likely to drop out of the eight. So? So going from 8 to 10 is a plus-2 points, but going from an 8 to a 5 is minus-3!
On the courses I shot the typical shoot is 30 targets, for a potential 300 score. All eights would be a 240, which I haven't hit yet.
Shot the easiest course i know yesterday, got a 234. A week ago, shot the toughest course i've seen so far, shot a 202! And Paul Muise, who I had the privilege of shooting with, beat my butt by 50 points ! An 'educational' experience to say the least ;-)
