View Full Version : Using feather as clicker

I refletched all of my arrows so that the cock feather will touch my upper lip at full draw.I'm wondering if I ended up with having to draw too far.I've never used a clicker so I'm not sure what factors are used in determining how to set it.I really have to pull to get that last little bit.Other times,it seems easier to reach.I've only been trying this for a couple of days now so I know it's a little early to make any quick judgements. It seems to be working very well so far.I was having a problem with an inconsistent draw length and it really showed up in a 3D shoot this week.I know that I'm already holding much longer than I normally do.I really think that this will be a great way to keep a consistent draw length.Any tips would be appreciated.

I do the same thing only against my nose with a three under draw. Really helped my consistancy. I got the idea from Ricky Welch and that boy can shoot.

Sorry, your not the first one to do that ;). Yup it's a good idea and works great for a lot of people. General thinking on clickers, (any kind) is that they should be set to "click" about 1/2" before MAXIMUM draw. That's usually about most folks natural full draw. You're right common problem with first time clicker users, is not setting out too far and over drawing, which leads to over rotating your head away from the target, having the string cut the tip of your nose off, and other unpleasent things!

Viper,I may have the fletchings set a little long but I sure would hate to strip off all those brand new feathers. The funny thing is that when shooting the bale,I had no problem getting the feather to touch my lip. When I backed up and started aiming,it seemed that on some shots it took alot of effort to get it to touch and my shot was usually off.I guess that is probably a sign that they are set too long for my draw.I'll try it the way it is a little more then if they are set wrong, I may just cut a little off the nock end of the arrow instead of wasting all those feathers.I should have just tried one arrow for a couple of days first.I always have to learn the hard way.Thanks.
