I just taught a class of new reserves Firearms Safety Saturday.
1 All guns are loaded
2 Never point at a person or sweep
3 finger off the trigger until ready
4 Be sure of your target and beyond
Tap,rack,target
lock,drop,rip,load,rack etc
Stance, grip, breath, sight alignment, sight picture, trigger press and follow through.
OK, a full two hours of unwavering attention, on the Draw and re-holster, like "you live and die by the draw" The fastest draw is the guy with his pistol already out. All this abbreviated in this post That "Safety is a state of mind"
Got out to the range and had numerous violations after all of this.
Conclusion: People will fight the way they train! Stress induced qualifacation syndrom reared it's head. Yes they paid me with push-ups but, Stress makes the newbies forget what they just learned. Mindset is the Mountain they must climb! You must walk to mountain first by training until you think you have it, and then train some more. I have found that: Even the seasoned veterans such as myself must not take for granted his skills. Much like a fine knife, it must still be touched up to cut!:)
