View Full Version : Cut past center risers?

Gents -

Most of the new FITA type metal risers and a lot of the older ones too, have the sight window cut pretty far past center. What are you guys using for rests? If you use a stick on flipper or magnetic rest, directly on the riser, the arrow is usually sitting center or past center. If you use a cushion plunger with the flipper, there might not be enough "arm" to support the arrow. Not a problem is you alway use a clicker, but I don't always use one. On my GM I found that an extra layer of thick double stick tape solved the problem. The NAP centershot rest are also a good fix, as is the spring rest. I've used all of those. What are you guys using.

btw - last time I asked a similar question the coverwhelming answer was to just bend out the flipper wire, to hold the arrow. Any new thoughts?

I,ve seen a flipper type rest that was held in the shoot position by a magnet. Not sure if thats the magnetic type your talking about but the ones I saw had a fairly long arm .This was my pre stick days and this type was used in conjunction with a cushion plunger.I see no reason it wouldn,t work well on a fita type rig.

That's the magnetic rest alright, but the one's I've been using, the ARE's, arm's aren't that long, given their angle. Pretty damn expensive too! Even my old Hoyt T/D (first T/D they put out) was well past center. That one has a NAP on it now.

Viper,
I don't know how tool handy you are but, I would make a little stand-off made of aluminum and screw or JB-weld it on. If you PM me with dimensions, I can make one for you.

I would use either a NAP centerest, a springy rest, or a wrap-around flipper rest like the Cavalier Free Flyte.

Thanks guys!

Yup, the stand off thing is a good idea, funny thing is the two strips of thick double stick tape may be enough with out the aluminum :D, Lumis saw the Cavilier Free Flyte. Does it mount in the plunger hole, and I guess it takes the place of the plunger???

Viper,
I have been using the ARE - RX for some time, I like it very much because it is very light and very fast. I agree it is very expensive.

The wire is a bit short all right, but it stands to having the angle slighly open, notwithstanding what they say in the instruction leafleat. One must be careful, however. I got this hint from Limbwalker, at first I was not going to do it, but decided to when I found out I could not remove the wire for replacing with a wider angled one. It goes about 2mm past the center of my ACEs now. I don't know how it would behave with heavier arrows, though (there are 3 wire thicknesses, mine is the medium)

Before the ARE I have used the Spigarelli magnetic for about 5 years. Strong, reliable, and has much more leeway for adjustment, but rough, heavy and clumsy when compared with the ARE.
I know nothing of the requirements for a hunting flip rest, but as I see it I would probably use the ARE for target but certainly not for hunting (too flimsy) and the Spiga for hunting.

I've used these and the arm is adjustable with the allen head set screw.

Viper,
The simplest solution is always the best! Just let me know if you need help.

Spigarelli magnetic lots of adjustment have them on most of the bows:2cents:

I have two Spigarellis that come with a built in magnetic rest. It is a single wire that is adjustable enough to accommodate a wide variety of settings.

The other riser I have (Best of Italy) has a Cavalier T-300. It comes with a long double wire rest that is very adjustable. I've set it to work with everything from ACC 3-39s to 2214s.

When I had a Hoyt GM I used the thick sticky backing on the Hoyt Super Rest so the little plastic arm wasn't stretched out too far.

These solutions have worked for me so far, of course YMMV!

Viper,

Wrap-around rests will mount between the plunger and the riser. I use both the large screw and the plunger to mount the rest on the riser. I put the screw in the forward hole and put the plunger on the back one.

I picked up a couple of ARE rests at the Vegas show. Nice simple rests, but they are pricey. The wire arm is much more stable/sturdier compared to some of the other stick-on magnetic rests I've seen.

The rest that Mark posted a link to is very nice as well. Unless K&K (or maybe it was Cartel) is making a rip-off of it, I don't think that's an ARE rest.

Viper, many flippers can be bent carefully to increase the angle from the riser, particularly the magnetic style over a reasonable range. Just need to grip the parts carefully to keep the bending loads applied on the proper part and not overload the pivot point.

Thanks guys, at least I've got some options!

BTW - currently using the ARE adjustable on the GM. Yeah, the price just went up again! Normally I'd just bite the bullet, and stick with it, except, that a few months ago, the little gold magnet fell out of it. A little CA glued it back it, and it still there, but a $30 rest falling apart, left sort of a bad taste in my mouth.

Really starting to think that GM is cursed.

Thanks again!
