View Full Version : Handicapping systems?

I was wondering if there is any fair handicapping method that lets recurve shooters really be competitive with compound shooters. The league I shoot in uses an NFAA handicap chart which makes the scores much closer, but still (unless you beat your handicap by 10+ points each week, which is impossible to sustain) the person with the highest scratch score will be the winner.

Is there any other way to do it without leaving things wide open to sandbagging?

I don't know, Mark. Our Winter league is experimenting with a handicap for the first time this year, and our club (just freestyle recurve and barebow recurve) shot against a club that is almost exclusively compound.

With the handicap, we whooped their @$$es, which never happened before. IIRC, freestyle recurve (with a sight) gets multiplied by 1.06, barebow by 1.13, and longbow by 1.44. I'm not sure who worked out the handicap or how, but you just should have seen the look on their faces!:)
