Late last week our daughter, Rory, started in with what we thought was a stomach virus. Well, over the weekend it progressed to a point that we made an ER visit and she was admitted to the our local hospital for fluids and observation. By Sunday evening, things had only gotten worse and at that point the Dr's at our little hospital in Lebanon, TN made the decision to transfer her to the childrens hospital at Vanderbilt University Medical Center here in Nashville. Here at the Vanderbilt, they verified what the doctors in Lebanon had suspected, Rory had contracted severe gastroenteritis due to E. Coli infection. Now, this morning tests have confirmed that it has progressed further into hemolytic uremic syndrome and it's have some serious effects on her kidneys. Please say a prayer for our little girl. She's 2 1/2 years old and having it pretty rough at the moment. Thanks

Chris, although this is a young site, their are strong believers here. In the other site where their are also strong believers we have seen many healed and saved over the years. As a brother in the Lord I urge all my brothers in here to step forward and say a prayer for this little girl. Satin has no right to her and in Jesus name we bind him from this child and ask Lord you would give the Doctors wisdom and we know you can heal her in an instant Lord, do this now for we lay before this request. Let it be done Lord. Amen.

Today's been a pretty good day. It appears that the gastroenteritis is subsiding. Her vomiting and diarrehea have fallen off dramatically in the last 24 hrs. She's also been interacting with us much more in the last 24 hrs, laughing a little and smiling. We're still having to keep a close eye on her kidneys though. Even though the gastroenteritis is getting better, her body still has to deal with the hemolytic uremic syndrome. Her urine output still is not great and we're waiting on the lab results to get a better idea of her overall kidney function. We're really hoping she can avoid dialysis. If not, we take heart in knowing it should only be a tempory thing. Thank you all for your prayers and concerns.....Chris

So thankful that she is doing better. Nothing in this life is worse than a sick child. God truly does answer prayer and there are many going out for this wonderful young lady and her family! John

her gastroenteritis is definately getting better. She looked at me this evening and asked for McDonalds :). Unfortunately she can't have that just yet, but when the time comes, I'll buy here all the chicken mcnuggets she wants.
On a down note, her kidneys are slowing down. Her lab results weren't very good today. She's still not at a point where she needs dialysis, but if they don't pick back up in the next day or so, she will. Her hematocrit and platelet counts also took another drop today as a result of the HUS. She'll be getting a transfusion sometime here in the next hour. We're just waiting on the blood bank to finish the compatability testing. Thanks again for your prayers. It means the world to me and Shelly and definately Rory.

Rory is in good spirits this morning :) . She woke up and said she was hunger, so she's been eating a little jello and some chicken broth this morning. It's the first things she's been able to hold down since last thursday. Her fever was completely gone this morning which is a blessing and a great sign she's getting over the gastroenteritis part of this. It's so good to hear her talking and laughing a little. She's slowly coming back to her old self. Her renal function tests still aren't looking good. Certain blood waste product levels are continuing to rise, but they're still not at the point where they're going to start dialysis. Only time will tell if that'll happen or not and we'll deal with that when the time comes. Right now, we're just rejoicing in the fact she's eating and drinking. Thanks again for all your prayers. Here's a picture of her from the 4th. They just don't come much sweeter :) .

What a precious child. I went through something similar with my oldest, an unknown disease (in our case) that attacked his intestinal systems and kidneys. He contracted a massive blood infection while white blood cells were already at critical lows and he was already receiving a heavy cocktail of anti-biotics.

I well remember the night my wife and I thought he wouldn't make it. By God's grace he did and over several months recovered fully. He was never diagnosed.

I will continue to pray for your daughter and your family.

Today has been the biggest roller coaster ride I've ever been on in my life. Early this morning, we awoke to the alarms on Rory's pulse-ox monitor going off. Next thing I know, we've got four nurses in the room gathered around her bed. I jump out of bed to see my little girl pale as a ghost, with blue lips and gasping for breath. Before we knew what really was happening, a team of physicians from the PICU came rushing in, and raced her away to the Peds Intensive care unit. All we were told was that she was in respiratory distress and that they were treating here in the ICU to get her stabalized. The hour following was the longest hour I've ever experienced in my life. I've held myself together pretty well for the last week, but this morning I almost came apart not knowing what was happening to my little girl. The ICU physician finally came out to see us after an hour and explained what had happened. Because of her kidneys shutting down, Rory had begun retaining a lot of fluid and had started swelling. The fluid had collected in her thoracic cavity and was putting so much pressure on her lungs that they couldn't expand well for her to get a good breath. Combine that with the fact the Hemolytic Uremic Syndrom had caused a severe decrease in her Red blood cell count and away she went into severe respiratory distress. Down in ICU, they put in a chest tube to drain the fluid and gave her an emergency transfusion of 2 units of red blood cells in order to get her stabilized. Once she was stabilized, and after they let her recover a bit, they took her into surgery this morniing where they inserted a central line catheter and also put in a peritoneal shunt so they could start dialysis ASAP this past afternoon. Now for the amazing part, this evening after going through so much this morning with the crisis, surgery and dialysis, I look a my little girl and she asks me when she can go to Chuckie Cheese's Pizza :amen: . She's sitting up in bed, talking and bright eyed like nothing ever happened. The chest tube and dialysis have removed a good portion of the fluid and her swelling has greatly subsided. If you couldn't see the chest tub, and other catheters and I.V.'s coming out of her body, you'd swear there wasn't much wrong with her. The turn around in her condition in the last 18 hours has been nothing but a miracle. She's still got a ways to go before she can be deemed healed, her kidneys are still not working, but hopefully she'll get there soon and we'll be on our way home. thank you all for your prayers and concerns. We truely believe it's what helped our little girl, and us, through her crisis this morning.

Chris, Been praying (and will continue to pray) that the Lord would be merciful to your daughter and grant her health and recovery, and just as importantly, that you and your wife would see an aspect of God's character that you would have not seen before (had not you gone through this), and be able to further your delight in Him.

Thanks for the update.

It's been a very wild ride and unfortunately, were at a low point right now. Rory was doing so well by late Sunday afternoon that the doctors moved her back up to the regular floor. She was doing fine until yesterday after lunch when she started becoming more lethargic and her breathing became more labored. By late afternoon, she was almost completely unresponsive and her oxygen levels bottomed out again. Again, they rushed her to the PICU where we are now. Tests show that this crazy disease has now started to affect her heart. Fluid build up around the heart, combined with her anemia, has weakened it to a point where it's having trouble keeping rythm. They did some more emergency transfusions last night and, combined with medications, have her stabilized. I just came back from seeing her this morning and though she is much improved from last night, she's still very weak. I keep praying this will all end soon and we can take our little girl home. Hopfully, this is the dark before the dawn.

Chris,
Sent a prayer for you guys. Hang in there, Brother! I too pray for you guys that this shall pass, and your sweet little girl will be healthy soon. She looks very precious, by the way!
My kids are 9 and 8, now, and they can scare the living hell out of you at times when they are sick or injured, but kids always have a remarkable will and blessing to recover.

I wish you, Rory, and your family well, my friend.

Chris....I have two girls myself, and the biggest fear I have in the world is that something should happen to either of them. I can only imagine your emotional state right now!

My spiritual side is something that I keep close to my vest(a very personal thing for me) but I tell you that my prayers and thoughts go out to you and your family right now. i'll be thinking about you and Rory as I spend time with my girls this weekend.
Hang in there buddy.

Cato,
I'm thinking maybe Thursday? I know that ideally it would be on a Sunday, but I don't think we should wait that long. This will give us tomorrow to get everyone who wants to do it notified then Thursday we can start our fast together. I figure each person can prayerfully decide for themselves what their fast will exclude. Whether it be a food or food and drink fast, and how long.
