Always wanted to be the first to open a bran new forum. Well...Bear and turkey season opens in 20 days and counting. Been seeing lots of nice big tom's running around and with the ultra mild winter black bears are out also, really looking forward to getting out of the basement, sharpening up the old Magnus broadheads and getting serious about doing in a nice black bear and maybe calling in a dumb old tom (if there are any!) and introduce him to Mr. Warf again. The 20 day countdown begins!!....warf

I'll be turkey hunting here is SC and one weekend in May in WV! There's more gobblers in WV than there are people, at least in Randolph County where we hunt!! :) :shooting:

how long does the season last there bob? i never liked to eat spring bear. the males sometimes are'nt too bad after they've flushed out good.
theres been green grass here for about 4 weeks so everything should be a go!
probably already have rub marks on the hide as warm as it's been.
if that took the bloom off for you, GOOD, nobody should hunt till we can all hunt!!!
idaho is not traditional! going to be a loooonnnnngggg twenty days.

Larry...Same thing here, pretty early spring and everything is out and running around. My bear hunting in the spring consists of boot hunting, spot and stalk, don't do bait much. I just like seeing bears around and putting the sneak on them. Haven't shot one for a couple years as I don't feel the need to kill everything I come across, just like trying to outsmart them and let most of them live another day. I have been after a huge blond blackie for a couple years but haven't connected on him yet. He is my goal this season and if I don't get him he will just be bigger next season. Turkey's are another matter, first one with a beard goes in the pot, wife's orders.....warf

got the juvenile turkey hunt this weekend. am taking my oldest, aged 11, saturday morning for his first hunt behind the gun! they changed it from the weekend after the reg season to the weekend BEFORE so the young 'uns get first shot at the dumb ones! :highfive: i'd give up my hunting this season for the pleasure of calling a brainless jake up to the blind.... :amen: ps2

Turkey opens on the 11th of April here in Iowa. If we purchase the "archery only tags" we get to hunt all 4 seasons which run through May 15th. Nice to have the extra time, a guy only gets so many birds in under 15 yards. :) Picked up a new T-5 recurve blind, can hardly wait to give'r a go.

Just make sure you get him rather then vica-versa! :luck:

Sub shooter...Had that black bear run in front of my 4 wheeler on a old logging road when I was going to my elk blind last fall. He was about 20 feet away and scared the bejeebers out of me, he was huge and the color of buckskin, my first thought was GRIZZ!!! but he was a blonde blackie, saw him a couple more times but never could get close eneugh to do him some damage. All black bears get my attention big time, not fun following a blood trail with a flashlight on your knee's shoving your bow in front of you in the brush. Brrrrr.....warf
I have never seen a color faze blackbear. We have none or very few here in the east. I am sure that one that color would cause my heart beat to pick up some. At least get us some pictures. Put some groceries in that old barrel and get the camera on him. Or better yet abroadhead thru him and then HERO pictures. Man you are our hero :bow2: John

got my oldest started on right foot anyway. no turkeys, no shots, but we had great weather & lots of fun! he saw several birds, & we jumped a few bedded does whilst moving between calling spots. what a grin that brought to his face! well worth the trouble as far as i'm concerned. plenty of snacks, something to drink, & NO little brother along to irritate the bejeebers out of him! dunno which was the better selling point.... :highfive:  :amen: ps2

Welcome to the board, Morningstar! :D
I know what you're saying about Iowa's archery turkey seasons. I grew up in SE Iowa and bowhunted deer & turkey in Lee/Des Moines counties up until '90 when we moved away. Always loved having ALL of November with no gunhunting, as well as ALL of the spring turkey seasons open to bowhunters. I sure do miss Iowa when the hunting seasons roll around.
