Well we had our first 3d yesterday.I went with the Bushwacker and they let me shoot in the longbow class. My goal was to average 8s which would be a good score for me.I missed it by 2 points because I had a miss on a chipshot. It was a course that had a lot of small targets so I still was pretty happy with my score. We shot 26 targets and I needed 208 but wound up with 206 but it was still good enough for 3rd in the longbow class. The first was a 224 and second place was 209 so I have to pick it up a little before the next one. :) It sure was fun after being sitting around since hunting season.

The first 3-d I went to I scored 150 out of 300.. not bad for my first ever.

James,
That's great. I wish I could break the 200 mark. I'm usually around the 160-170 mark on a 30 course range. I did shoot a 220 one time, usually TP strikes and things go downhill from there.

Our local 3-D season started a few weeks ago. All of ours are 40 targets with 10, 8, 5 scoring. Did two last weekend, shot two seperate shoots, did a 377 last Sat., a 365 on Sun. Shot one yesterday, a real tough course with targets to 42 yds,, a beaver at 32 yds etc. badly angled targets and looong shots at most, did a 356 so wasn't to unhappy. Looks like it's going to be a good summer with the old warf bow....warf

good going James.
Oh yes, Warf, evil emperor of the Tradborg minions. That’s the 3d shoots that I love. The lowly commoner, 25yd shots on a foam elk or lion are so easy. But I beseech ye, Evil one how did I completely miss a give me lion at 30 yards. with the warf.(was it vortexes? ) :mistake:

Van...Most people in Africa who miss a lion at 30 yds are called dinner!! LOL Your lucky it was a foam lion, must be "lion fever" that caused the miss......warf

Could it be that the trad police sorcerers are at work , plotting angst me? As you know, with the warf one is invincible. I only get that close to a lion if it has other sources of protein.

Van...Is tha a picture of your shooting partner after your miss? No wonder your circle of trad friends is shrinking after you got your warfer, told ya that would happen....warf

Well most of the shoots around here are all 20 targets. We have been getting some extra targets to make it a 30 target shoot at our club.I don't really know why they put out 26 yesterday. :) I have never really shot a lot of 3ds.I usually only shoot the local ones which is about 6 a year and shoot more for the fun of being with my buddys. This year I built the Bushwacker just to shoot the 3ds with so I am going to try and see what kind of scores I can shoot. :) Hanging around with you guys talking all this target stuff is making me want to try and see what I can do if I try. I plan to get better as the year goes on but never hope to be in the class of the better shooters.I just don't have the drive or the time for what it takes. :) We have one guy that works at it pretty hard and shoots a lot of shoots. He won the recurve class with a 242 yesterday.

I got a few looks but all in all it went well. :) They asked which class I planned on shooting and I told them it was a longbow. ;) It did not have an elevated rest and I was shooting aluminum instead of carbons so it went ok.If we shoot carbons you have to shoot in the unlimited class against anything that shows up.It would have still been fine with me since I do it when I shoot carbons before hunting season anyway. Most of the times the longbow class and recurve classes have higher scores than unlimited anyway. :) A 219 won the unlimited yesterday with a longbow and carbon arrows and my score would have still been good for 3rd so it really don't matter. We plan on voting at the next meeting to do away with the carbon rule since so many people hunt with them now.

That's one of the best things I've heard about competitive 3-D shooting in quite a while.

had my second today, shot with a stabilzer and my sights on. shot a 252 out of 30 targets, i dont turn my card in really, i just go for the walk and i shoot at hunting yardages rather than some of the 35 yrd stakes. Someday i will shoot the stakes and turn her in but for know i just like having the fun.
My average without a sight is around 215-225 on 30. so i did gain some. lot more 10s this week thats for sure.

Yeah it is fun just shooting. We always shoot a second round for fun after we turn in the cards. On that one we don't use the stakes and take turns calling the shots. We make it tough on each other on that round. :) We might be at one stake and shooting a target across the ridge for another stake. The course has cleared out by then and it is layed out in such a way that there is no danger to other shooters. This is our quarter round and a 12 on one of those shoots gets a little BS session going.
