Finally got both of my Warfs completed, strung up and shot. The Ben Pearson is mine and the Black Bear is my son's.He has'nt seen it yet as he is off at college. The Pearson was my first Warf project. The riser was a little flat,I knew nothing except what I learned from you guys and words of wisdom from Warf. I built a little more angle into the pockets when I installed 1/8" alum plates. With the set of 40# longs PSE Pro Elites that I got from dKard the bow is pulling about 54# at my 29 1/4".I just got my new Fast Flight from Key Stone country(Nice People)and good prices.I bought a set of Beman MFX 400 4" feathers.Haven't tuned yet.I finished both the risers today and when I got home and began installing the limbs UPS drove up.I mounted the alpine soft lock 3 arrow quiver twisted the string to a 8 1/4" brace, grabbed the only arrows I had ( 2117) easton fall stalkers,100gr 31" with vanes and headed for the yard. After about 20 warm ups and getting used to the bow.I started keeping pretty tight(2")groups at 15yds.I was just eye balling the nock point as I know nothing about tuning.Bam four arrows 2" and the fifth Robin Hood.(first ever) I am glad I wasn't shooting my new Bemans. The robinhood is cool but can be expensive. The FF is really quite and fast.I have Beaver Balls for the string, haven't installed yet. This bow should whisper then.I have a MM D97 from Robert on the way.I ordered a nap centerest because of the cut past center riser but this beast shoots really well off the shelf. If I decide to shoot off the shelf I won't be able to use a plunger as the riser won't allow. What is the best material for the shelf. It it just bed liner spray now seems to be pretty slick and my new Bemans are 4" feathers. The Bear Riser has 46#Long WW Focus ILF limbs.I have them cranked down to start with.Just shooting the bow it feels about 50#.It is hard to tell.I'll take both bows to the shop and scale. Is there any "HOME"method for scaling #'s?The Pearson and Bear riser are close in weight but I like the Pearson much more as it has alot more mass.DEAD<DEAD>DEAD in the hand for me.I had the 46# on the Pearson first but because of the flater angle I was around 60#.I had no problem shooting but not as fun to shoot. At little hard on my shoulder. It is amazing how much difference 6# makes on a draw.

Would the nap centerest work on the Bear Riser?I don't think I'll spend as much on arrows for my son, probablly, stay with alum. Any suggestions??

If anybody has a Pearson, the build pics are in another thread.

I want to thank many people for their help. And especially Robert for this Web Site.

Congrats Bill!

I use a hand-held scale similiar to this one.

It seems to accurate enough for my purposes.

The NAP Centerrest would probably work on the BB but you have many more options including; a Bear Weatherest, flipper and plunger, or a Springy rest.

Thanks,Bill I am really pleased with how the Bows shoot.I do like the mass of the Pearson.I consider myself an "instinct" shooter as I really don't have an aiming method.I pick a spot on the target, draw point and shoot.Out to 20yd I do ok. The Pearson shoots so well off the shelf and I like the arrow close at hand.I just ordered a Seal Skin arrow rest from Alaska. My old bow,and my first bow is a 1958 Ben Pearson TD LB with maybe 1/4" shelf(leather handle)It's the only way I have ever shot.I read about all the different methods and am amazed at the many ways a bow can be shot.

The only reason I ask about the centerest for he Bear is that I already have one coming in the mail. The shelf and rest hole is is narrow and close to the hand.On the Pearson there are two shelves. The lower (at the handle)is about an inch+ wide(dead center) then steps up to the upper shelf where the hole is.The seal skin according to my Budd in Alaska is the best.
Thanks for all your input Bill, "Kick Them Wheelie Butts"

I don't know about the rest, but great job on the build. And the shooting!

On my Blackbear Warf I tried the Centerrest Flipper and it didn't work. On some past threads I believe others said the Centerrest would work though. Two different rests in case you're not familiar with them. Clear as mud?

WT...If you have a bathroom scale it's pretty easy to get the weight. take a 3' 2X4, cut a large notch in one end to fit in the grip recess of the bow, measure down from the bottom of the notch and mark your draw length with a magic marker, put the board on the scale, weight it first, put bow on it and push down on the string to the mark, deduct weight of the board and you will have your weight. Be carful though you don't want to put anything through the bathroom window if something slips...lol...warf

I read in one thread about using weights so I trised his method.I affixed a sturdy hanger to a rafter in my garage.I hung the bow from the string at nock point.I took an arrow with a clothes pin on it nocked and pulled to full draw(29 1/8").The close pin slid and stopped at the riser and I marked with a marker.I then took a pc.of rope and tied up 50# of steel free weights, tied the other end around the handle and with marked arrow nocked I suspended the weights slowly. On my Pearson with the 40# limbs the marked spot was right at the riser so right at 50#.On the Bear with the 46# limbs it hung a little past maybe 51-52#.If this is accurate, the ww Focus limbs built 14# over marked limb (60#) on the pearson riser but only 6-7# on the Bear. The PSE Pro elite limbs only built 10# over marked limb (50#)on the Pearson. If all is some what accurate this is close to what I was looking for.I was looking for about 55# on my bow(Pearson) but the 50# feels pretty good.My Son is a young Buck (19) his bow with the ILF can be lightened but cranked down and tiller at zero.I 'll leave it as is. In this case the ILF makes for a good quick take down system.
