View Full Version : I'm gettin the itch
Guys, I don't know about you, but I'm getting the big time itch to hunt. Its 90 degrees plus down here and humid, but I sure am day dreaming about the cool breeze of late fall.
I'm about ready to get some flu flus and go hunt some jay birds or something. That is what too much time in the office will do to you.
Oh well, back to work.

You're not the only one. I've been seeing a lot of deer lately and it's only made things worse. late September can't get here quick enough for me.
I just got word today of a place I may be able to crank up on a pig in about a month. We may be getting it going a little earlier this year!!

I'm had the same feeling since the end of deer season here in Jersey... Been seeing lots of deer all over the place... Come on Sept 10th :shooting:
Wow, September 10th. We don't start with the whitetails until October 1. No fair.

Laura and I will be on a bear hunt at the end of August in northern Maine. Can't wait. Then deer begins in Maine on Sept. 1 and in NH on Sept 15. ALmost forgot, there are a few bear where I deer hunt here in NH, saw three of them last year deer hunting. That season starts on Sept. 1 and turkey can be taken during the archery deer season. Once I get the DAS bow it will be hard to keep me away from our targets. :shooting:

Man, have I ever got the itch. My house backs up to a State Forest. I am prepping for Philmont at the end of July, so I have been hiking out there quite a bit. I see lots of deer. The other night I heard something unatural, stopped, and saw a doe crossing the river that runs along the trail. She was moving slowly and her coat was that beautiful orangish color they have this time of year here in NC. I was bustin' out of my skin all night. I can't wait!

A few days ago i was out doing some repairs on our chicen coop (we have 15 new layers) in preperation for letting the birds out there small box and have the run the coop. I heard a twig snap and looked about 10 yards behing the coop and there stood our big martriarchal doe. In the past two years we know she has had at least 5 fawns, triplets last year, 2 of which are bucks. She fed for about 15 minutes and got as close as 5 or 6 yards without ever noticing me, something she does not do during the season. i could hear other footsteps in the woods and can only assume that her fawns were there in the cover. Two weeks ago she was pregnant and now she is not. During the winter we had a bachelor group of bucks hanging around. There were 7 of them and sometimes 9. One evening we saw all of them bedded on the far side of our pond. What a sight to see 7 antlered bucks all bedded on my little piece of the world. There is a lot of sausage to be had and my mouth is starting to water. :)

I had the itch since I was walking out of the woods the last day of last season.

I got out on the back part of the property the other day to do some grass cutting and jump a nice young buck out of his bed. He bounded about 40 yards and stopped to take a look at what spooked him. He had some nice spuds in velvet on top of that head of his. Looks like he might turn out to be a decent 3x3 this coming season. Now I'm really itching bad.

The way Figure it... summer is 3D Season. Gets us up to speed for the fall! :shooting:
I've got access to a new area this year. I'm starting to try to get familiar with the lay of the land. At least it is getting me out.

Cato, with all this new hunting ground, no reason for you not to limit out on does and bucks this year. And all with a bow. Can't beat that with a stick. Best of luck.
